A little bit of everything!!

This week it is the week of all the little things going on in the crafting world of Terry.
My faithful Janome decided that it needed a few repairs and in protest quit sewing.  So we have a new comer to the shop.
Quantum Stylist 9960
I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and capabilities of this sewing machine.  One heck of a machine for the price ($400).  Lots of features, feet and a large table base.  Best of all, all the unfinished sewing projects got (and get) to be finished.

New back pack.
I was working on a new back pack for myself when the Janome's bobbin holder gave out.  I love these handy bags. Throw it over your shoulder and off you go.  Best thing about these bags is that when wearing both straps the weight is even on each shoulder.  Great for those who have shoulder or back problems.  If you are interested in one give me a call.
Lots of pockets inside (1 large zippered as well as the main)
and out ( 1 on each side and 2 in the front)

table topper
It felt good to finish this bright (not sure why the photo is a little washed out) table topper.  It had been in the "please finish me" pile for a few weeks.  In keeping with trying out all the features of the 9960, this was quilted with the walking foot, then bound with the same.

The pattern was a quick project put together for a few ladies wanting a refresher course with all the tips and tricks of quilting.  A fun little project where the main block is cut to make 2 different blocks.  I shows how to read a pattern and adjust if needed, cut, sew, match corners, pin, arrange and all the little tips and tricks that help everyday quilting along.

First hand applique.
I was able to finish the border of my very first hand applique attempt.  It was fun to use up as many of the left over scraps from the main design.  Gave me a chance to practice my paper piecing (the pin wheels and flying geese), put the new machine through the gambit piecing and sewing thin strips, and do a little machine applique. But I used up most of the fabric and made a wonderful sampler.
I found that I enjoy sitting in the evenings with a project to hand sew.  Started this applique project...

Block 1 of  9

Look what happens when you take a class.  You might find a new calling. lol

Yesterday I started making a set of placemats with a simple pattern that are going to be gorgeous.

New placemats.

With all of this flurry of energy, I am still working on the longarm a few hours a day.  Next week you will be able to see Terry's (not mine) quilt she made for her nephew.

And last but not least... garden season is almost among us.  Here is the start of what I hope is an awesome growing season in Atlantic Canada!

Pretty in pink charity quilt 2

A treat for today's post.  My son Tyler had fun topstitching this quilt top donated to the charity basket.

Topstitched by Tyler.

He did a wonderful job and had fun doing it.  He had been practicing on and off for the last few months, in between myself doing customer quilts.

Loops and stars.

I showed him how to load the quilt, clean and oil the machine head, and let him at it.

Looks great!!

He chose the design for the topstitching and the thread and had this wonderful twin quilt done in a day.

Dresden Plate pattern.

I am going to have to be careful or he will be taking over the whole business soon. LOL

Good job Tyler and thank you to the person that donated these 2 quilts to the MPQG give away table.  Pretty in pink 2 will be on sale for $100.00 of which $50.00 will be donated to the SPCA and the other $50.00 to cover the material costs for the quilt (backing, batting, thread, and material for binding).

Very cool back.
Remember that all the time to prepare, load, topstitch and bind (which will be done as soon as the new sewing machine is here) our wonderful quilts for charity are donated.

So if you have quilt tops that you dislike, or just do not want to finish you can drop them off or mail them to (make sure you put an note with it telling me that it is for charity)

Christmas Stars

The first of Rose's 2 quilts is the Christmas Stars quilt.

Christmas Stars

A beautiful quilt to work on.  Rose decided on ruler work, or 'humps and bumps' as I like to call them, then tying it all in with a meandering leaf pattern in the negative spaces.

Ruler work to show off the stars.

The ruler work enhances and shows off the stars and squares of the quilt while making a beautiful flower shape to center the leaves.

Rose did a magnificent job of piecing this beautiful Christmas themed quilt.  I still enspire to make my points and joins as lovely as hers.

Back
A wonderful quilt to bring out during the holidays and show off.  Or if you are like me, hang it up, drape it over a loved chair and show it off all year long!

Next post will be Rose's second quilt 'Never again' .... wow!

Canada's Birthday 150 years

Linda made this beautiful Red and white Canadian themed quilt to commemorate Canada's 150 years.

150 yeas
And as you all know I love sampler quilts.  Gives me a chance to be creative and show off a tiny bit.  Like adding northern lights to the Inukshuks Block, how cool is that!

Back

The rest was just fun and made me smile the whole time I was topstitching Linda's wonderful quilt.

It has all the wonderful points of Canadian life from the our unique languages, EH!, to the much loved toque worn all year long.  (Not to be confused with togue which means mung bean sprout.)  lol

EH!

A fantastic quilt Linda and thank you for letting me be the one to bring it life.

Alaska Sunset

It was an absolute delight to do Judith's Alaska Sunset (Alaska Star).

Alaska Sunset

Judith saw her quilt echoed with a meandering star pattern in all the light areas.  So that is exactly what happened.

Judith put her quilt together with both hand sewing and machine sewing enabling her to work on her quilt almost anywhere.

Border.

There were over 260 starts and stops to make sure that only the colored stars and diamonds were echoed.

Center detail

The Alaska Sunset is sure to be a eye stopper in the upcoming Lions Gate Quilt Guild in Vancouver this year.

Back
A beautiful quilt to work on.  I'm sure Judith will be thrilled when she opens her delivery from the Atlantic.

Remember that if you send your quilt to Seriously Pinned, I will send it back to you free of charge.

12 Patch

A funny story about this quilt.  I had originally started making another rail fence quilt like the one a few bogs ago. https://blog.seriouslypinned.ca/2020/02/perfect-for-growing-little-girl.html

I must have been having a bad day, or at least not watching what I was doing as I had cut out all the blocks from strips, neatly piled them and quit for the day.

Bubble Pop has a 30's feel to it.

When I woke the next morning and started putting the block together, realized I had cut all my 8.5" x 8.5" blocks 8.5" x 7.5".  Needless to say I said a bad word!

So now do I cut them all down to 7.5 x 7.5" or wait... 7.5" makes 3 - 2.5" and voula 12 patch blocks.  Took a little longer to make but it looks great.

Love the polka dots.
Amazing how life throws you new options and makes you stop, think, and ponder the possibilities.

Iti a happy quilt

So now we have a new quilt in the shop for sale.  Call me if you would like more information or visit our website at

Paper Piecing

The paper piecing class at Marco Polo Quilt's Guild was fun and I hope everyone became a little more familiar with paper piecing.  Or at least my way of paper piecing.

Samples of the paper piecing class.

I was delighted how many ladies picked up the extra pattern version and although only a few were able to finish the one star, assured me they were going to finish and make a few more as well.

Nice crisp points.

I heard talk of pillows, candle mats, perhaps trying the paper piece pattern they had been looking at but thought too daunting to start.

There was lots of laughing, sharing and of course friendship to be offered.  Thanks to Paul even a wonderful homemade meal available to the class.

A successful class.  How wonderful was that?

Merry Reindeer

Cynthia brought me this wonderful Christmas reindeer quilt to be sure and have it ready for next year.
Just need noses and ready for Santa's sleigh next year.
Cynthia fussy cut all the sashing for her quilt and well worth the effort.  We decided to leave the sashing and do a medium density meandering and festive scroll pattern for most of the large spaces.

Fussy cut sashing

On Comet, On Blitzen

Then of course I just had to make sure that they all had an individual hat to wear.

Each with their own hat.

Now all that they need are noses, a whistle from Santa and quilts all hung on the wall with care. lol

Lisa's Beautiful Double Ring Quilt

How wonderful is Lisa's quilt going to look on her bed.
Double Rings
It was a lot of work putting all those small pieces into a ring pattern and she did a wonderful job.
Look at all those pieces.

Because of all the bright flower fabrics we decided to match the topstitching using Terry's fav flowers.

Terry's fav flowers.

Lots of daisy like flowers, leaves and swirls gave Lisa's quilt motion.  Add a medium silver thread that matched the background fabric made all that wonderful color really pop out.

The double ring really stand out.

But wait until you see the back. wow!!

Joan's Beautiful Card Tricks Quilt

Joan's quilt turned out beautiful and I love the splash of red throughout the quilt.

Love the red splashes of color.
Made with love for her grandson's graduation (who wanted a blue quilt), is sure to be treasured for many years to come.

The topstitch pattern, Scribble Back, was the perfect pattern for this quilt adding a modern flair and still maintaining a masculine feel perfect for a young man.

It is such a fun pattern giving a lot of motion to the quilt.  A pattern with straight lines would have overpowered the angles of the 'card tricks'.

So much fun.
Back shows well.
Scribble Back is such a fun pattern to do, turn the music up and get into the loop groove. lol.

Joan also had me sew the binding on.  This way it will take her no time to finish the last bit by hand.

Seriously Pinned will bind your quilts and as in Joan's case get the binding on for you, nice and trimmed, corners pinned and ready to sit, have a cup of tea and relax while doing a little hand work.

Mom's Little Monsters.

I've been having a ball making Mom's Little Monsters on days that we are not renovating Tyler's shop.   Lurch Lurch in his butl...
