Making Dolls

 I have had a ball the last few days making dolls.  I has been to cold to do reno's at the shop so thought I would make a few dolls to go with the doll furniture we are planning to CNC.

I pulled out the dye-able fabric and tea stained it.  It worked perfectly for the face and the body.

A little purple hair and rosy cheeks make Prickly Petunia a real cutesy!

Orange fabric for the clothes.

It had been a long time since I made doll clothes (50 years, yikes).  The pants were pretty straight forward but it took me a bit to get the top right.  Still not happy with it but will try again later.

Terry's Koi Quilt

 I finally finished the Koi quilt for my bedroom. 

It was a challenge to longarm as I used a heavy micro fiber blanket for the back and still added a winter weight batting.

In order to pull it off I had to rise the hopping foot of the longarm and could only do the waves across the quilt in one direction.

With a lot of thread breaks, a bit of swearing and a few "never again" moments I managed to finish the quilt. 

One of the worst things was the clean up after.  Cutting the edge seams of the blanket meant that there was blue fuzz everywhere.

Having said all that it looks perfect on my bed and with the matching curtain (the start of all this) really gives my room the 'wow' factor.

Would I use another blanket like that with the batting...definitely NOT!

But, not bad for a quilt that took a day to put together using a panel of left over fabric from the curtain and the hand dyed fabric I made this summer.  Added a few meters of grey fabric, and the day on the longarm, a half day to bind on the sewing machine and day of re-calibrating my machine. A bit of clean up, and I have a very quick and stunning quilt to match my room.  And ... is it warm with just the perfect weight for sleeping in a cool room.  I love it!!

 Since Pauline moved and has  beautiful new sewing room she has been a quilting feend! 

All on one back!!

These were just a few of the wonderful quilts Pauline sent.  I absolutely loved the christmas tree and so she sent me the pattern.  It will be the perfect solution for the kitty problem.  Hang it on the wall and stack the presents under.

I just had to add this very cute photo of a circle mat that Pauline had me make for a girl friend of hers. Of course it had nothing to do will Sammy's approval.

 Pauline has sent another box of goodies from Vancouver, filled with table runners, halloween and Christmas delights.

The pumpkin patch complete with a garden of corn.  It was fun to make the corn field in the center encircled with big fat wonderful pumpkins.

Bright red and ready for fall.  

Long and gorgeous, topstitched with a simple tied ribbons all on a bow.

Adding a few butterflies in the corners of this simple table topper is sure to add a bit of interest.  Just a little conversation piece.

As always saving a bundle when all of the smaller items can be placed on one backing.

And then there are bats and Boo's.  Adding text and little sayings is always fun to add to any quilt.

Table Toppers

 What do you do on your down time..... Here are a few of the smaller quilts I have been making from the leftover box. 

I hate to call my leftover box the scrap pile as I really never have scraps.  Preferring to use them up and try out new patterns at the same time.

Sometimes though you can just look at a fabric and say, that would be perfect as...... and make one of your old standards.

Even if you still have a small piece of fabric that you just couldn't fit into the top, don't forget the back.

Designer Pack Sacks

 I had such a nice email the other day.  Maureen from Calgary sent a "help, are you still making pack sacks?"  Her two that she had from years ago, one as a gift from her sister and the other because see loved the first so much, have finally worn out.

The green one is at least 7 years old and the blue 4 years.  Funny story the quilt in the background was started by Maureen's grandmother, worked on by her mother and completed by me.  Not bad eh.

Back to pack sacks.

After sending Maureen a few photos of samples of fabric she chose silver and burgundy.

Out front there are 2 buttoned pockets (or zippered when requested) and 2 side pockets perfect for glasses, personal fan, or a small water bottle.  They are well made and washable.  

Both of the bags have 2 zippered pockets in the inside, A hidden pocket and a key chain holder.

The straps are adjustable and the drawstring is complete with a toggle.

Little box of treasures

 Once again Pauline has come through with a delightful box of treasures.  Little quilts on one backing.  Huge savings!!

A 5 min sewing job saves big time.

But lets get to the treasures.  

A big spiraling spiky flower.

Always so much fun to do.  It is like opening a little book of riddles , just waiting to be solved.

It sure shows up in the white
with a off white thread.

Just look at this!! Beautiful.

Added more dragonflies and a lot of 
loops.  Perfect match to the fabric.

I just love how this turned out.  This topper is going to be stunning on Pauline's Table.
