The big January box!!

Yes Pauline has saved the day (or month) again.  January is always the slowest month in the longarm business so Pauline's biggest box yet was perfect timing. For the next few blogs I thought I would show lots of pictures and not a lot of writing. So enjoy!

Table toppers!

Card Tricks

Log Cabin

Very cute label for the back.

Victorian Thread Play

Pauline ask if I could make a few small whole quilts for her that matched this photo.

She sent a bit of blue fabric with specific measurements that she needed.  2 - 11 x 18" and 3 - 8" squares.

This is what she got.  The first one I did in the more traditional color on color but was disappointed the the blue on blue just disappeared.  I had to 'go bold or go home' as the saying says.

You can hardly see the butterfly pattern in the top and as I used a black backing (and black batting) the blue came out with a little more detail.  Now for the gold!!

It turned out gorgeous.  And what a lot of fun to do.  I did draw out the pattern I wanted to do with a heat erase pen.

Sorry for the camera color way to much light.

It was fun to draw out the basic design and then play with patterns in-between.

the 8" x 8" quilts

I decided not to fill in the empty spaces, which is a little untraditional but I really liked the look.  Thought it showed off the design and not overpower the overall piece.

It was a fun project and I think I'd like to make a bigger one, maybe with a medallion or a mariners compass for the theme.

Colored Snowballs!!

Colored snowballs! What a wonderful bright snowball quilt Kathy made.  It's brilliant!

What would be better for a bright and bold quilt? Why Terry's favorite flowers big and bold to match the quilt.

Big and bold!

Even the thread color we used is a statement, it is called Passion, bright pink and beautiful.

And just look ant the back, Kathy did a great job of adding a few strips to her pieced back.  Not an easy thing to do with that much fabric.

Kathy also had a few table topper/hangers to topstitch so we added them to the bottom of the quilt, but that is for the next blog.

Ironing Table Cover

Pauline sent me a request to make a ironing table cover.  Hers has seen better days and she needed an replacement.

After thinking about it and what I needed and how to go about it, I remembered that there was a large sample/test piece of fabric that had a layer of batting and 3 layers of poly/cotton that I use to play on or use to practice on.  So I filled in a few spots with random threads ( a great way to use up half finished bobbins) and these are photos of the final pad.

It is all made and ready to go in Pauline's next box from the west coast.  I cant wait to see how it looks when she sends a photo back of the ironing pad in place.

Practice makes for to much fun!!

Here is a photo of Pauline's new ironing table.  Looks great doesn't it?!!

Chandelier Quilt

 Kathy's Chandelier quilt is gorgeous.

I love how she placed the crystals from light to dark.

Ribbons

Kathy decided on a topstitch pattern that created movement and added to the detail of the quilt.

Meandering ribbons,  a fun pattern that flows from one side of the quilt to the other cascading downward with Kathy's chandeliers.

Topstitched with a light pink thread that is hardly noticeable against the creamy background.

Very pretty quilt Kathy.

Hoping for spring

Florence's third quilt is, well, spring!!

Spring

A scrappy quilt with a whole lot of sunshine mixed in.

I was happy to introduce Florence to something a little less traditional and big on the modern fun side of topstitching.

Big loops and daisies, all over the quilt.  Can't you just see sunshine swept fields of daisies in her quilt?

And look, a lovely sea mist green thread to hold it all together.  Way too much fun.

Florence has done it again!

Dorothy's mom Florence sent me another 3 quilts to do.  The first is a bright and beautiful 9 patch and window quilt.

A large scrappy quilt with lots of color and I love how she places a yellow in the white for  all the window blocks.

Florence loves a traditional topstitch with white thread.  Cathedral windows were perfect for the squares of this quilt.

The back, white on white.

9 little Christmas trees and a runner.

Getting too close to Christmas for Rose to finish all of her Xmas gifts in time she asked if I could load up 9 little Christmas trees and a table runner.

So I loaded up a very long sheet of fabric and started topstitching away.

Loading the back and the batting allowed me to topstitch from one across to the other and back again making short order of all the large hangers.

Close up.

Only having to make one thread change also sped up the process.  And are they not just the cutest crooked trees?

Even the backs turned out spectacular.  With enough time left for binding, wrapping and gift given with love!

Mom's Little Monsters.

I've been having a ball making Mom's Little Monsters on days that we are not renovating Tyler's shop.   Lurch Lurch in his butl...
