Number 3 - Fans

 The last quilt in Florence's stack is a gorgeous fan quilt that just shouted " show me off".

I had a lot of fun topstitching this quilt.  Echoing around the fans and creating matching fan 'bones' throughout.

The finished look was meant to really show off the fans and make all Florence's hand applique stand out.

Traditional drop pattern on the borders.

Florence loves white on white.  Using white thread places the topstitching into the background and really makes the colors of the fans pop.

Once again a back you just love to show off!!

Happy Halloween

 I just had to 'jump the line' with Debbie's Halloween wall hanger.  Just for halloween day!!

Made for her grandson, this halloween quilt has it all; Spiders and spider webs, a wicked witch on her broom!

3 little ghosts having way too much fun. 

  

Even a cauldron of witches brew.

So Happy Halloween, be safe and just for tonight, scarier than the goolies out there!!!! lol.

Number two - 9 Patch Window Quilt

 This is one of my favorite patterns. Done in modern fabrics or traditional 30's it is always spectacular.

At 88 years young, Florence is definitely the quilting Queen! Liking the traditional patterns, Cathedral windows is always the perfect choice for topstitching Florence's quilts.

Or as I like to call them hump and bump.  Ruler work may take a little longer but the finished quilt is beautiful.

Then with a simple chandelier drop on the borders to finish it off beautifully.

 Florence amazes me with the amount of beautiful quilts she makes.

This is one in a group of three that she sent with Dorothy from Moncton.  A beautiful fan quilt that we decided to do an edge to edge rose garden topstitch pattern on.

It matched so well with all the flower prints included in Florence's quilt.

Surrounded by leaves. 

A border of meandering leaves finished off the rose garden keeping this quilt very traditional and true to the classic design of the quilt.

And just look at the back! One to fold over and show off.

Bananas and Seashells

 Rose has done it again with this wonderful brightly colored quilt pattern named Alvira.

Because of the ocean prints on the fabrics Rose asked that we stay with a water theme.

So I whipped up a few shell templates, placed them randomly over the quilt and joined them all with softly flowing water.

I had made a seahorse template for the quilt as well when I noticed that a few of the fabrics had wonderful seahorses stamped right on them.  So I echoed one occasionally.

Oh... and the bananas, the back is awesome.  A little to slippery for Rose to tackle on her machine.  It loaded right up just fine onto the longarm and look at the bananas and seashells!  Brilliant and way to much fun.

2 Pumpkins and an Owl

 Well it was really 4 pumpkins, just on 2 toppers.  Kathy brought in a pieced back with a wonderful owl to topstitch and to save a little, brought in 2 table toppers to do at the same time.

3 for the price of 1.

The owl was terrific if not a little challenging to topstitch. The fusible web she used was having difficulties maintaining a grip but by the time the topstitching was finished with a wandering leaf pattern, nothing was coming off!

Look at those eyes!!

In the owl we decided to topstitch little scrolls.  It was a perfect way to ensure that all the small cutout flowers held their place.

Hoot

Using a lilac thread for the owl and then a green/grey thread for the background made sure that the owl was the centre of attention in this wonderful wall hanging.  

Well worth the challenge of the webbing used.  I had never seen fusible web that gummed up a needle like this one did.

Using the green/grey thread for the background worked perfectly to continue right on into the 2 pumpkin toppers.  And how much fun is making spider webs freehand on these ready for halloween pumpkins?

I thought afterward that I should have placed a spider on each topper.  Now that would have been spooky!!

Bright and Bold Botanicals

 When I phoned Lynne to pick up this quilt I asked if I could buy it.  I love the colors and the bright fabrics she picked.  

Of course she said no.... "you couldn't afford it"! lol!  She had made this for her and that was that.

I could see why and although I hated to see it out the door it gives me inspiration to make a bright and bold quilt for myself.

Lynne did such an awesome job of selecting just the right color and pattern to go in the right location in the blocks.

I also really liked how she placed a yellow row of centers then a orange row.  Zig-zaggy purple and wow.
